The McEvenue Home Works program is a minimally funded program of
last resort, which is funded on an April 1st to March 31st fiscal
year. We are pleased that it has been a well-utilized resource for
many of our clients and those living in our community. Many of the
approved applicants found themselves at risk of losing their
housing as a result of rent arrears and McEvenue Home Works was
able to provide the immediate resources necessary to maintain
their housing. All in-house referrals will be processed through
our Central Intake. External referrals come through our Resource
Centre at the phone no. below. Please note there is an approximate
two-week wait between the date we receive supporting documentation
and the date the claim is finalized.

The goals of the McEvenue Home Works Accommodation
Supplement
program are:
SERVICES
One-time financial assistance within the fiscal
year unless otherwise negotiated. Please note the funds
approved are provided as a grant or a loan; approval for a loan
would require a repayment contribution. Decisions are
based on financial information provided by the client.

Assist with Rent, Mortgage and Utilities
Arrears.

Assist with first and last month’s rent.

Assist with bridge-funds to cover rent and
utilities costs for persons scheduled to move into a housing
unit, who cannot immediately take possession of the unit due to
illness or other factors beyond their control.

Assist with bridge-funds to cover rental and
utilities costs for a client/tenant in hospital.

Repair damage to rental unit to maintain status
as a tenant in good standing and to maintain a healthy and safe
living environment. This can also include small home repairs.

Start-up funds for purchase of new and/or
replacement furnishings which are required to live and maintain
a healthy living space.

Access personal identification required to
secure accommodation.

Assist with access to budget counselling.
ELIGIBILITY
-
Persons, 16 years and over, living in Peel
Region, and cities/towns within the Central West LHIN (Local

Living with a serious mental illness (Please see
attached definition of SMI) and
-
In need of affordable and quality housing and
some one-time financial support to access the same, or
-
Under the threat of eviction, homeless or
temporarily living in a shelter, or
-
Under the threat of utility cut-off in
combination with being under the threat of eviction, and
-
Exhausted all options for financial support, and
-
Not approved for and not yet in receipt of OW or
ODSP funds, or those who are in receipt of OW or ODSP but are
not eligible for additional funding support, and
-
Have or be in the process of obtaining 2 pieces
of ID.

 This
program was renamed McEvenue Home Works in honour of CMHA/Peel
Branch’s cherished colleague Anthony (Tony) McEvenue, who passed
away unexpectedly on February 25, 2007. Tony’s passion was
security of housing and he would stop at nothing to ensure safe,
affordable and respectful housing for people with mental illness.
The renaming honours the memory of the man who spearheaded the
development of the Home Works program and guided it through its
infancy.
