Geranium Sale

The Annual Geranium Sale campaign has been a fixture of CMHA/Peel Branch since 1986. Volunteers co-ordinate the selling of geraniums at their place of work or home by taking orders in April and early May. Other volunteers deliver the plants in mid-May, in time for planting on the long Victoria Day weekend.

All it takes to be a Volunteer Salesperson is a willingness to post a flyer, keep track of an order sheet, fax the sheet in by a specified date, and collect payment prior to delivery of the plants. On Delivery day your office/agency/home will be enlivened by lush, vibrant-coloured (red, salmon, light pink, dark pink and white) 4.5-inch pots of geraniums, which come from Haase Greenhouses in Brampton.

If you think you might be interested in volunteering to help sell or deliver plants for this year’s Annual Geranium Sale, contact Shelagh at 905-451-1718 x 320 or nuttalls@cmhapeel.ca. Sales people start selling plants at their place of work or neighbourhood in April/early May and receive delivery on the Wednesday or Thursday before the long Victoria Day weekend.

CMHA/Peel’s 25th Annual Geranium Sale is on now! If you’d like to participate contact Shelagh Nuttall at 905-451-1718 x 320 or nuttalls@cmhapeel.ca Lush plants in 4.5” diameter pots are available in 5 colours – red, white, salmon, light pink and dark pink – and sell for $5 each or 3 for $12. Delivery is free with a minimum order of two flats (30 plants). Choose Wednesday, May 18 or Thursday, May 19, 2011 – in time to plan for the long Victoria Day weekend. (Orders must be faxed to 905-451-1720 by May 11th.)

Mental Health Week

The first full week in May is Mental Health Week. This national event gives Canadians an opportunity to find out the importance of mental health and how to achieve it in their community.

This year Mental Health week is May 1 – 7, 2011 and the theme is Mental Health for All.

Maintaining our mental health means striking a balance in all aspects of your life: social, physical, spiritual, economic and mental. Take time to think about your emotional well-being and your “mental fitness.” Give yourself permission to take a break from your worries and concerns. Here are some simple ways to practice mental fitness:

Learn ways to cope with negative thoughts
Do one thing at a time
Exercise
Enjoy hobbies
“Collect” positive emotional moments
Set personal goals
Do new things/challenge yourself
Keep a journal or talk regularly to loved ones
Share humour
Volunteer
Treat yourself well
Ask for help
