Donations

Canadian Mental Health Association/Peel Branch is a charity and gratefully accepts contributions. Webster's dictionary defines "donate" as "to make a gift of, contribute." When you make a gift to CMHA/Peel you contribute to its success in your community. The World Health Organization estimates that one in four is affected by mental illness during their lifetime. It's an issue that affects everyone -- directly or indirectly. To donate now, click here. To learn various ways to give, click here.

Candy Dispenser Program

CMHA/Peel's Candy Dispensing program is an easy way to contribute. A candy dispensing machine will be delivered and maintained AT NO COST TO YOU… unless you count the quarters you feed it to satisfy the cravings of your staff, customers or clients. There are two, three, four and six-headed machines which take up only 1 sq. ft. of space. This is what a two headed machine looks like:

The program began in 1978. Representatives from Ev’s Vending, working with Canadian Mental Health Association, delivers the dispenser to your place of business. You’ll have a choice of quality products, like Reese’s pieces, M & M peanuts, jelly beans, Skittles or chocolate covered almonds. Each dispenser carries the CMHA logo and says you care about mental health.
Please call Laura at (905) 451-2123 ext. 432 for more information or e-mail hampsonl@cmhapeel.ca

Employment

Our staff team is comprised of over 90 people from varied backgrounds, each bringing expertise unique to the program within which they work. Social service work, nursing, occupational health, psychology, forensic, crisis, voluntary sector management, fund raising, communications, and administration are among the fields of expertise sought by the Branch to form a comprehensive, well-rounded staff team.

Our staff is highly valued as they are the primary way through which our clients realize their goals. We are a human service organization and as such, bring much integrity in our interactions with staff and treat them with the utmost respect. It’s critical in order to do the best for our clients.

Membership

Your membership lets us:

  • Promote mental health more broadly
  • Ensure continued access to funding sources
  • Demonstrate that we have community support
  • Send a message to our clients that they are important and cared for.

Membership in CMHA / Peel:

  1. Involves a broad section of the community to ensure the Association's policies and directions are relevant and sensitive.
  2. Provides a medium to inform the public regarding mental health issues.
  3. Provides a source of volunteers for the Association's broad range of activities, since an informed citizen is more likely to get involved.
  4. Reflects citizen power in negotiations with government and other institutions.

Privileges include:

  • Use of the Resource Centre library and its services
  • Voting rights at Annual General Meeting (except for Associate members)
  • Senior volunteer positions (i.e., Board of Directors)
  • Complimentary public presentation (i.e., usually one presentation during Mental Health Week in May)
  • Subscription to Network, CMHA, Ontario Division’s seasonal magazine

The cost is nominal.  Join now and your membership will be valid until March 31. (If you join after October 31st, your membership will not expire the following March 31st but will be valid until March 31st of the next year. For example, if you join CMHA/Peel on November 1, 2008, your membership will be valid until March 31, 2010.)

Volunteer

Canadian Mental Health Association/Peel Branch is a voluntary, non-profit organization, valuing the contributions of many volunteers. However, we currently have too few resources secured to build our capacity in this area of operations. Therefore, front-line volunteer opportunities exist primarily through student placements. It’s a win-win scenario with placement students, as they have a clear mandate to learn by doing and we benefit from their “doing” as we invest our time to teach.

If a volunteer position is available in a particular program, it will be posted on the web site. Likewise, our Board of Directors is comprised of volunteers and if there are vacancies, the job description will be posted on this page.
