CMHA Ontario and National
There are 33 C.M.H.A. branches in Ontario, which offer services within the community they serve. The Ontario Division, lists those branches on their web site and the services they provide. Based in Toronto, Ontario Division assists branches in areas of organizational, program and service development, Board development, program evaluation, community and system development and implementation, education and training, information and research. Their mission is to promote the mental health of all individuals and communities in Ontario by providing leadership through knowledge enhancement, policy development, advocacy, and the advancement of best practices in service delivery.

National Organization

The National office of Canadian Mental Health Association is in Ottawa. Founded in 1918 it is one of the oldest voluntary health organizations in Canada. (To read a more detailed history, click here.)

CMHA National brings together branches, regions and divisions of varying sizes in more than 135 communities across Canada to combat mental health problems and emotional disorders through research and information services; sponsorship of research projects; workshops and seminars; and production of pamphlets and newsletters. The National office also acts as a social advocate to encourage public action and strengthen community mental health services and legislation affecting services, in addition to communicating with world health organizations. They have six core areas of service:
